The DT Swiss Alpine III is the spoke with the best stiffness-to-weight ratio, which is thanks to a complex manufacturing process. Starting with a 2.34 mm spoke, the diameter of the thread is reduced to 2 mm in a cold-forging process, and to 1.8 mm at the centre.
